Our Family's few days in Acadia National Park

This wasn’t Evan’s first trip to Maine and Acadia National Park but it was for the rest of the family.  Warm but not scorching days, cool nights, rocky ocean views and cute little towns… yes please!  The kids had a blast at Acadia.  Gray was pleased by the rock climbing possibilities, Kyrie repeatedly said “Oh, it’s just so beautiful” and Phoenix would play on rocks or sand all day everyday if he had the choice.  I have no doubt those three are ready to go back there already.

The first order of business was to acquire a fresh Lobster dinner. We found a cute spot with good reviews and ordered up two with all the traditional fixings.  The kids enjoyed the experience more than the actual lobster but it’s one of those things you can’t skip while in Maine right?

There are several places in Acadia that  require a ticketed entrance to keep down on crowds.  We were fortunate enough to score tickets for two nights in a row on Cadillac Mountain at sunset.  The wind was blowing and required a jacket (can we say Hallelujah) and the view from the top of the mountain was breathtaking as the sun lowered.  We picnicked and relaxed and its was a peak memory from the trip.

Something that I learned once in the area was that Bar Harbor and the other little towns are essentially part of Acadia National Park since it twists and turns in and out all over the islands. In my mind they had always been separated and further away. Though they are obviously on the touristy side, all the little downtowns were such fun places to walk around and enjoy a few treats. And there is no shortage of boat watching as boats of every size and caliber use those ports while you are in town. There were a lot of “ooooh” and “ahhhh” moments watching ships come and go.

In all we saw steep cliffs and giant rocks and huge crashing waves and wildlife.  We walked in the freezing water and on the tumbling rocks and through the soft sand.  All 5 senses were at a peak while in Acadia. It’s simply gorgeous.

We hated to go after three days but more stops were calling to us.  As we headed south out of Maine we were warming welcomed by a sweet church of people at Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer.  After a few weeks away from our own church it was nice to join in Worship with a community of Jesus followers.  Nothing fuels you for the continued journey ahead more than that….
