Our family made a great stopover in Egypt on our way home from a recent trip and I want to give all of the details of how we made this happen. All the places we visited, where we stayed and costs associated with each thing.

This wasn’t Evan’s first trip to Maine and Acadia National Park but it was for the rest of the family. Warm but not scorching days, cool nights, rocky ocean views and cute little towns… yes please! The kids had a blast at Acadia. Gray was pleased by the rock climbing possibilities, Kyrie repeatedly said “Oh, it’s just so beautiful” and Phoenix would play on rocks or sand all day everyday if he had the choice. I have no doubt those three are ready to go back there already.
Read MoreOur visit to the Adirondacks, Smuggler’s Notch State Park in Vermont and Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. We made a few stops along the way to some national park service sites and a few waterfalls.
Read MoreThe trip begins…
The kids are loaded and the camper is hooked up and we’re back on the road Jack! After a hiatus due to everything being shutdown in ‘20 and house building in ‘21, it’s been a long awaited trip. This time the trip destination is New England and all things East Coast. Evan has a wedding in Vermont so why not right?
Bonus: Gray and Meagan will both hit 49/50 states by the end of the trip. Will Gray make it to Hawaii or will Meagan make it to Michigan first? Only time will tell.
Read MoreSo far Dry Tortugas National Park has been the hardest to get to. It requires a guide, personal boat or riding the ferry. There’s a limited amount of tickets available for the ferry each day. I didn’t know that i was going to be able to make it. With no ticket in had we walked over from our hotel to hopefully take a no shows spot….there were 5 spots that opened up that day and I was able to grab one of those slots. It’s a 4 hour one way trip from Key West to ride the 70 miles to Ft. Jefferson, which is the main island that’s accessible for the park. It’s an old civil war fort in the MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN. The park spans around 100sq miles that’s mostly water with only 7 small islands. It protects the marine life that lives at the tip of the continent.
Read MoreThis was really a place that had been on my list but not really near the top aside from the fact that it was a national park and basically a check mark on my “knock all the parks out quest”
Well, I was extremely surprised how much I loved the Great Sand Dunes. Though we had sand EVERYWHERE it was a great experience. Sunrise and sunset on the dunes felt like we were in another place (not the middle of colorado).
Read MorePuerto Rico really surprised me. It was just as easy to get to as flying to another state (as it’s part of the US, remember) but it was akin to being in another country. The landscape reminded me a lot of Hawaii yet had it’s own unique feeling. Some of the highlights of my fast, wet trip were Cueva de India, El Yunque National Forest and San Juan National Historic Site. The whole island is lush and beautiful and I hope to go back with more time to explore.
Read MoreA winter trip to the alps thanks to scottscheapflights.com.
The places we were able to see and explore were breathtaking. One thing we noticed in planning for our trip is that most of these destinations are much more popular in the summer. There was very little info on winter options. We couldn’t find many blogs or vlogs for winter, we didn’t really know what was open and what wasn’t in winter. There’s tons of info out there for the Dolomites and other areas but not for winter. Well…..winter in the Alps is AMAZING. It may not be as accessible, it may be a little harder to get around but it was totally worth it. 100% recommend it.

Read MoreI’d always seen pics from Seneca Rock and had been close quite a few times but on a weekend trip to film a wedding in NYC I made the concerted effort to make it. Rain was in the forecast and I was pushing it to drive all the way from home in time before sunset.
Read MoreOn November 5th of 2019, five of us from our home church (Parker Memorial Baptist Church - DeArmanville) in Oxford Alabama headed towards the Atlanta airport with northern Uganda as our destination. Four Corners Ministries out of Opelika Alabama has an amazing ministry just beyond Gulu called Abaanas Hope. Evan has been able to travel with the organization for several years and this time a group of us were fortunate to go as well. We flew and swapped planes and flew some more.
Read MoreI had the opportunity to travel to Central Ohio to film a wedding in October 2019. As with many trips, I always try to take a few days to explore a new place. Find a national park nearby, a state park, or really any kind of natural landmark that I can track down. On this particular journey I explored Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Hocking Hills State Park and visited James A. Garfield National Historic Site and Stopped by the First Ladies National Historic Site (which located at President McKinley’s home)
Read MoreTuesday morning we got up and out and headed straight for our reservations to go to the Gateway Arch National Park. The Arch itself is free (and just became a National Park last year) but it costs to go to the top. While we didn’t go to the top of the Space Needle, we wanted the experience of the Arch. It’s a lot like an airport when you walk in with security checks and electronics which fascinated the kids. After being cleared we headed underground to the museum and information area. The exhibits were so well done and fun for all ages, it was easy to tell how new it all was. When it was our reserved time we lined up to be taken to the top of the arch.
Read MoreFriday morning we took it slow getting up and out after the late night. Once motivated, our first stop was the visitors center to collect the junior ranger books and see what they had to offer. There was an active fossil lab to enjoy as well. After we gathered our info we took to a few trails as it began to rain. A fun part of there Badlands is that unlike other parts you are encouraged to explore around outside of the trails. The big kids were so excited to climb the dunes/hills/mounds (whatever they are called) and not be breaking the rules.
Read MoreOur first stop on the way to the black hills area was Devils Tower National Monument. After lunch at R-Deli in Hulett for delicious sandwiches we dropped the camper at Devil Towers View Campground (electric hookups only but close to the park and has a view of the monument) and headed on in to the park. We only had one day and night for Devils Tower and it was plenty of time.
