Gray and I were on our way to Colorado for a wedding and had an option for a long layover in Phoenix….so…. We rented a car, grabbed some in-n-out and hit the road to explore the Saguaro National Park. A great option.
Read MoreSo far Dry Tortugas National Park has been the hardest to get to. It requires a guide, personal boat or riding the ferry. There’s a limited amount of tickets available for the ferry each day. I didn’t know that i was going to be able to make it. With no ticket in had we walked over from our hotel to hopefully take a no shows spot….there were 5 spots that opened up that day and I was able to grab one of those slots. It’s a 4 hour one way trip from Key West to ride the 70 miles to Ft. Jefferson, which is the main island that’s accessible for the park. It’s an old civil war fort in the MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN. The park spans around 100sq miles that’s mostly water with only 7 small islands. It protects the marine life that lives at the tip of the continent.
Read MoreThis was really a place that had been on my list but not really near the top aside from the fact that it was a national park and basically a check mark on my “knock all the parks out quest”
Well, I was extremely surprised how much I loved the Great Sand Dunes. Though we had sand EVERYWHERE it was a great experience. Sunrise and sunset on the dunes felt like we were in another place (not the middle of colorado).
Read MorePuerto Rico really surprised me. It was just as easy to get to as flying to another state (as it’s part of the US, remember) but it was akin to being in another country. The landscape reminded me a lot of Hawaii yet had it’s own unique feeling. Some of the highlights of my fast, wet trip were Cueva de India, El Yunque National Forest and San Juan National Historic Site. The whole island is lush and beautiful and I hope to go back with more time to explore.
Read MoreI had the opportunity to travel to Central Ohio to film a wedding in October 2019. As with many trips, I always try to take a few days to explore a new place. Find a national park nearby, a state park, or really any kind of natural landmark that I can track down. On this particular journey I explored Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Hocking Hills State Park and visited James A. Garfield National Historic Site and Stopped by the First Ladies National Historic Site (which located at President McKinley’s home)
Read MoreBack in the states from an amazing 9 days in Canada we quickly drove into North Dakota and hit up Ft. Union Trading post and then on to our campsite in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Read MoreOur first stop was Two Medicine Lake and the surrounding area. The winds were cold and it was a little misty but it was a nice flat hike out to the lakeshore for a pretty view. By the time we got back that night and ate supper Kacey had learned three things: while in the road we hike a lot, stay out way too late because the sun never seems to go down in this part of the country and we eat really well.
Read MoreTuesday we made the short drive towards Mount Rainier National Park and quickly arrived at Mounthaven RV Resort less than a mile from the entrance. And man, what a Haven it was. The park is small with only a few RV spots and some small cabins for rent. The bathrooms are nice and the trees are huge so the entire campground is shaded and cozy. It feels like a slice out of the national park but for your own personal pleasure. With our convenient location we were able to go in and out of the park with ease. On Wednesday morning we got up early and headed in so we could make it to the Paradise Visitors Center
Read MoreIt’s no secret that I love the beach and Evan and I both love the mountains so when you can have mountains that meet the beach, well, then it’s pretty much Heaven. And that’s pretty much the sum of the Pacific Northwest. Evan and I traveled to Washington the year we got married and enjoyed Olympic National Park and the surrounding areas so much. We have talked several times about coming back so our time in this area has been 10 years in the making. First stop, La Push.
Read MoreIt is hard to know how to even begin to describe our time at Grand Teton National Park. It was one of the first parks we knew we had to visit when we started to plan our trip a year ago. We knew it would be beautiful but we were unprepared for just the amount of beauty we would find.
Read MoreThe day after we returned from Hawaii we loaded up the kids and the camper and we hit the road for another extended road trip. This trip wasn’t near as many miles as our California trip in the spring but it was a still a few great weeks of National Parks and new experiences.
Read MoreWe spent 10 days on the trip this summer. All was in Uganda but the time was split between Abaana’s Hope (Four Corners Ministry location outside of Gulu) and the South Sudanese refugee camps in the Adjumani town area. Here are some images of the pastor training and mission work that is happening there.
Read MoreKCMO was a a full 14 hours of fun. We were treated to some great BBQ and then went for custard because, duh. We had a few hours of solid family time with some of the Lanier cousins and then slept like bricks. We were back on the road to Arkansas the next morning to start the home stretch of our trip.
Read MoreWe’ve wrapped up our 5 parks in 5 days throughout Utah. The desert has been incredible but we are ready to see some green forest. The last few nights we’ve been in Moab, Utah and it's a pretty cool town with a lot of adventurous stuff to do.
Read More“Beautiful, beautiful Zion…” I’m having a hard time knowing where to even start with Zion National Park because I just loved it so much. We only had a day and 1/2 to explore there and man I wish we would have planned for longer.
Read MoreWhen we first drove into the park from the southwestern entrance it was pretty but a normal kind of pretty. And then after some bobbing and weaving we went through a long tunnel and came out to a view that literally took our breath away. There was no way to know while we were in that tunnel what awaited us on the other side.
Read MoreI didn’t know much about Sequoia National Park before we got here (this is starting to become a regular occurrence apparently). I just figured we would drive to the park and immediately see the massive Sequoia trees all around us. Not the case. When we entered Sequoia for the first time from the Foothills entrance we were greeted with a more lush and almost tropical feel of a park.
